Parking Brake - Remove

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove bolts (1) and reposition center drive shaft (2) to the side.

  1. Position yoke (3) , as shown, in order to allow the brake drum to be removed.

  1. Release the parking brake.

  1. Remove pins (7) and (8) in order to disconnect rod (6) from lever (9) .

  1. Activate the parking brake in order to will allow rod (6) to be retracted out of the way.

  1. Drain the transmission oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Transmission Oil - Change".

  1. Remove bolts (5) and reposition brake actuator (4) .

  1. Remove bolts (11) and brake hub (10) .

    Note: The steering cylinder on the left side must be removed in order to remove brake drum (11) from the machine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Cylinder - Remove and Install".

  1. Remove bolt (12) , retainer (13) , and O-ring seal (14) .

  1. Remove yoke (3) .

  1. Remove bolts (15) and brake assembly (16) .
