Description of Change: A new winch control is now available. The 231-2222 Winch Control will replace the 163-3205 Winch Control. The improved winch control will provide better serviceability in the field.
You must also order 259-1165 Service kit in order to replace the 163-3205 Winch Control with 231-2222 Winch Control.

Note: 259-1165 Service Kit does not need to be purchased if mounting plate (4) is modified. This requires placing joystick (1) in the opening of mounting plate (4) and following Step 2. Transfer the hole pattern from the joystick to the mounting plate. Drill four 3.9 mm (0.154 inch) holes. Thread the holes with a NO. 10-24 tap.

- Remove the existing joystick.
- Locate new joystick (1) in the opening and orient the joystick for the proper operation. Ensure that the lever movement in the REEL IN and REEL OUT functions matches the previous installation. The REEL IN function will be located in the direction of Forward for the tractor and parallel with the armrest on the tractor seat.
- Align the holes of adapter ring (3), joystick (1), and mounting plate (4). The notch in the bore of the adapter ring should be located relative to the position of the wiring harness that is attached to the joystick.
- Grind a notch in existing mounting plate (4) in order to match the position of the notch in the adapter ring. The notch will provide clearance for the wiring harness.
- Install adapter ring (3) to the mounting plate (4) with four capscrews (2) .
- Install joystick (1) to the adapter ring (3) with capscrews (2) .
- Connect joystick (1) to the main wiring harness and test each function of the joystick.
Note: The lever may be twisted ± 22° from the nominal position by loosening the screws of the clamp under the boot, that is at the top end of the housing. Position the lever in the desired location. Tighten the clamp screws. A 9/64 Allen wrench is required.
Adaptable To: The Improved winch control is adaptable to the machines that are listed above.
