Usage:
All 3512 And 3516 Engines Equipped With Air Prelube Pump Group
Description of Change: An article on this same subject was published in Service Magazine, December 10, 1984. Some of the information in the earlier article was not correct. Put a mark through the earlier article and make reference to this article.
A lubricator group is now available for use with air prelube pump motors. The lubricator group is part of the air lines groups, which are attachments. The lubricator group mounts on the air prelube pump motor and will help prevent corrosion in the pump motor.
Formerly, when the air prelube pump was not used for extended periods, the internal components of the pump motor could corrode and stick. This was caused by moisture in the air and not enough lubrication in the pump motor. The air prelube pump motor does not have enough suction to pull oil from the large lubricator in the starting air lines group and send it to the air prelube pump motor.
Adaptable As: The 7W522 Lubricator Group is adaptable to all 3512 and 3516 Engines equipped with an air prelube pump group.
If a lubricator is not used with an air prelube pump motor, the air supply line at the motor can be disconnected and engine oil can be sprayed into the motor before and after extended periods of not being used. This will help prevent corrosion.
