Assembly Procedure

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, thoroughly clean all parts in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Do not use wiping cloths or rags to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Dirt and other contaminants can damage the precision component. Perform assembly procedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and protected at all times.

1. Use Tooling (A) to install two bearing sleeves (16). Install the bearing sleeves into the bores so that the bearing sleeves are 1.5 mm (0.060 inch) below the surface of the manifold assembly. Install the bearing sleeves so that the bearing sleeve joints are 30° ± 15° from the centerline.

   Note: After installation the bore of new bearings must be 31.786 ± 0.008 mm (1.2514 ± 0.0003 inch).

2. Apply a thin coating of lubricant to the bore of the bearings after installation.

3. Use Tooling (A) to install two bearing sleeves (15). Install the bearing sleeves into the bores so that the bearing sleeves are 1.5 mm (0.060 inch) below the surface of the carrier assembly. Install the bearing sleeves so that the bearing sleeve joints are 30° ± 15° from the centerline.

   Note: After installation the bore of new bearings must be 31.786 ± 0.008 mm (1.2514 ± 0.0003 inch).

4. Apply a thin coating of lubricant to the bore of the bearings after installation.

5. Install O-ring seals (13) and (14) to carrier assembly (12).

6. Install shaft assemblies (9) and (10) to carrier assembly (12).

7. Install carrier assembly (12).

8. Install woodruff key (11) to shaft assembly (9).

9. Install O-ring seal (8).

10. Install oil pump gears (6) and (7).

11. Install oil pump body assembly (5).

12. Install O-ring seal (4) to cover (3).

13. Install cover (3).

14. Install two bolts (2).

15. Turn the gear pump.

16. Install four bolts (1).

    Note: After assembly, the transmission charging and torque converter scavenge pump must turn freely by hand.

1. Install the transmission charging and torque converter scavenge pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Gear Pump (Transmission Charging and Torque Converter Scavenge) - Install".
