Removal Procedure
Note: Put identification marks on all wires for installation purposes.
Accidental machine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the machine. To avoid accidental machine starting, turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position and remove the key. If the machine is not equipped with a battery disconnect switch, disconnect the battery cables from the battery and tape the battery clamps. Place a do not operate tag at the battery disconnect switch location to inform personnel that the machine is being worked on. |
- Open the access door on the left side of the machine.
- Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
- Disconnect harness assembly (3) from alternator (2) .

- Loosen bolt (1). Remove bolt (5). Rotate pulley guard (4) away from the pulley. Rotate the alternator toward the engine, and remove V-belt (6) from the alternator pulley.
- Remove bolt (1). Remove alternator (2) and pulley guard (4) from the engine.

Note: If the alternator pulley was removed, apply Tooling (A) on the threads of the alternator pulley nut and tighten the alternator pulley nut to a torque of 65 to 74 N·m (48 to 55 lb ft).
Note: When you install the alternator, the alternator pulley must be aligned with the crankshaft pulley within 2.4 mm (0.09 inch).
- Loosely install pivot bolt (1) to secure alternator (2) and pulley guard (4) on the engine. Install the V-belt on the alternator pulley. Loosely install adjusting bolt (5). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Every 250 Service Hours or 3 Months" for the correct procedure to adjust the belts. Tighten adjusting bolt (5) and pivot bolt (1) .

- Install harness assembly (3) on alternator (2) .
- Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
- Close the engine access door.
