Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Drain the engine oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change".
- Remove bolts (1), engine oil pan (2), and the gasket.

Installation Procedure

- Apply Tooling (A) at Locations (Y). Place a new gasket and engine oil pan (2) on the cylinder block.

- Install bolts (1). Tighten the bolts according to the following procedure.
- Tighten Bolts (X). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 31 ± 3 N·m (23 ± 2 lb ft).
- Start at Position (Z) and tighten the remaining bolts in a counterclockwise direction. Tighten the remaining bolts to a torque of 31 ± 3 N·m (23 ± 2 lb ft).
- Start at Position (Z) and tighten the bolts again in a counterclockwise direction. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 31 ± 3 N·m (23 ± 2 lb ft).
- Fill the engine with oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change".
