Power Train Oil Pump
Illustration 2 | g00917980 |
Power train oil pump (16) is mounted on the lower right of the housing for torque converter (7) . The pump is a three-section gear pump which provides oil for the following functions: braking, transmission control, lubrication and torque converter operation.
Priority Valve
Illustration 3 | g00917986 |
(17) The Priority valve is effective with the following: (S/N: CCK1-701), (S/N: ALY1-1887, 1889-2065), (S/N: CBL1-UP), (S/N: AKM1-1793), and (S/N: CCS1-UP) |
Priority valve (17) is located beneath the plate that is under the operator seat. The priority valve is mounted on the bevel gear case. The priority valve makes sure that oil pressure is available for braking and transmission control. The priority valve also supplies oil for the operation of the torque converter and for lubrication of the brakes and the transmission.
Accumulator

(20) The accumulator is effective with the following: (S/N: CCK702-UP), (S/N: ALY1888, 2066-UP), and (S/N: AKM1794-UP) |
Accumulator (20) is located at the rear of the tractor above the case and frame. The accumulator stores potential energy by accumulating a quantity of pressurized power train oil. The pressurized oil is stored in an accumulator cylinder. The accumulator is charged with dry nitrogen.
Power Train Oil Filter
Illustration 5 | g00917991 |
Power train oil filter (14) is mounted behind the access door on the rear of the machine. The power train oil filter is designed to trap debris in the oil in order to prevent damage to the power train components.
Torque Converter
Illustration 6 | g00926334 |
The housing for torque converter (7) is located behind the engine between the flywheel housing and the main drive shaft. The torque converter is a hydraulic connection that transfers engine power through the main drive shaft to the transmission. There is no direct mechanical connection between the engine and the main drive shaft. During operation, the torque converter multiplies torque as the load on the machine increases.
Power Train Oil Cooler
Illustration 7 | g00917992 |
Illustration 7 shows the power train oil cooler and the radiator from a machine with finger tip controls. A machine with a differential steering system will have an additional oil cooler for the steering system that is mounted along the left rear side of the radiator. |
Power train oil cooler (10) is located at the base of the radiator. High temperature power train oil is cooled by engine coolant that circulates through tubes inside the cooler. Then, the oil flows to the brakes for lubrication purposes.

Temperature control (21) is located on the left side of the tractor on the inside of the frame. The manifold should direct all the power train oil from the torque converter outlet oil through the power train oil cooler at an oil temperature of approximately 84 °C (183 °F).
Transmission Hydraulic Control
Illustration 9 | g01555576 |
Transmission hydraulic control (19) is located on top of the planetary transmission. Transmission modulating valves (22) and main relief valve (23) are contained in the transmission hydraulic control. Each of the five transmission clutches has a respective modulating valve with a solenoid. The modulating valves meter the oil that is used to control the operation of the transmission clutches.
Transmission
Illustration 10 | g00938122 |
Planetary transmission (4) is located inside the transmission case, which is inside the bevel gear case. The transmission transfers power from the engine to the final drives. Five hydraulically activated clutches provide three speeds FORWARD and three speeds REVERSE. Speed and direction are electronically selected by the operator.
If the machine is equipped with Multi-Velocity Program (MVP), the machine has five speed ranges in the forward direction and five speed ranges in the reverse direction.
Differential Steering System
The basic components of the differential steering system include the following items: a steering differential and brake unit, a planetary and brake unit, a hydraulic steering pump, a hydraulic steering motor and the steering controls. The steering differential and brake unit is mounted inside the bevel gear case behind the final drive on the left side of the machine. The planetary and brake unit is mounted inside the bevel gear case behind the final drive on the right side of the machine. These units transfer power from the bevel gear to the final drives in varying proportions. The input is based on the operator input from the steering control lever. Input from the steering control lever signals the steering pump to send oil to the steering motor. The steering motor acts on the steering differential and brake unit in order to vary the power to each final drive.
Brake Control Valve
Illustration 11 | g00926337 |
Brake control valve (13) is located beneath the plate that is under the operator seat. The brake control valve is mounted on the top of the bevel gear case. Oil that is metered by the brake control valve is used to control the function of the brakes during machine operation. The brake control valve is operated electrically by the ECM, which responds to the operator's movement of the brake pedal or the parking brake switch.
Service Brakes
In order for the machine to be stopped or slowed, use the service brakes. The service brakes are engaged by internal springs, and disengaged by pressurized oil. The service brakes are located within the steering differential and brake unit and within the planetary and brake unit. These units are mounted inside the bevel gear case behind the final drives. Depressing the service brake pedal reduces the amount of oil to the brake piston. This partially engages the brake, which reduces the speed of the machine. Further depression of the service brake pedal will eliminate oil flow to the brake piston. This will allow the springs to fully engage the brakes.
Transfer and Bevel Gears
Illustration 12 | g00938124 |
Transfer and bevel gears (5) are located inside the bevel gear case in front of the planetary transmission. The transfer and bevel gears transfer power from the transmission to the planetary and the brake unit and the steering differential and the brake unit.
Final Drive
Illustration 13 | g00917998 |
Final drives (2) cause the last speed reduction and the last torque increase in the power train. The final drives transfer power from the planetary, the steering differential, and the brake unit to the tracks by way of sprockets.
