Adjustment of Input Gear End Play

Note: The bearing axis must be vertical for correct end play adjustment.

1. Before assembly of the components, make sure that the bearing cups and the bearing cones are seated in the housing by using a 0.038 mm (.0015 inch) shim or a standard feeler gauge.

2. Use two cage bolts (1) in order to install cage (4) to case (3). The cage bolts are separated by a distance of 180 degrees. Do not install shims (2) or seal (6) .

3. Tighten the two cage bolts (1) to a torque of 1.7 N·m (15 lb in).

4. Turn gear (5) at least three revolutions in order to seat the bearings.

5. Tighten the two cage bolts (1) to a torque of 3.4 N·m (30 lb in).

6. Turn gear (5) at least three revolutions in order to seat the bearings.

7. Two cage bolts (1) should again be tightened to a torque of 3.4 N·m (30 lb in).

8. Measure the gap between case (3) and cage (4) at the two cage bolts (1). Perform the measurement between the outside diameter of the flange and the cage bolts.

9. Average the two measurements from Step 8. Add 0.33 mm (.013 inch) to the average. This result is the required thickness of shims (2) .

10. Remove the cage. Reassemble the cage with required shims (2) from Step 9 and with O-ring seal (6) .

Note: The end play of input gear (5) should be 0.10 ± 0.05 mm (.004 ± .002 inch).
