This diagnostic code is associated with the shift lever transmission control.
FMI 02 is recorded when the transmission ECM senses a problem in the shift lever's output.
Prior to troubleshooting, cycle the shift lever through all of the positions. Note the location of the shift lever when the diagnostic code occurs.
Clear the diagnostic codes that are inactive.

Test Step 1. CYCLE THE POWER.
- Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
- Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
- Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
- Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
- Verify that the diagnostic code is present and that the diagnostic code is active.
- Note the diagnostic codes that are active. Note the diagnostic codes that are inactive.
- Clear the diagnostic codes that are inactive.

Expected Result:
The diagnostic code is present.
Results:
- YES - The diagnostic code is present. The diagnostic code is active or the diagnostic code is inactive. The shift lever has failed.
Repair: It is unlikely that the shift lever transmission control has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. Also, recheck if the diagnostic code is active. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the shift lever transmission control. See Testing and Adjusting, "Transmission Control (Shift Lever) - Replace".
Stop.
- NO - The diagnostic code is not present. The shift lever is functioning correctly. Stop.
