Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install

Usage:

IT38G 1CW

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".

------ WARNING! ------

Accidental machine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the machine.

To avoid accidental machine starting, turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position and remove the key. If the machine is not equipped with a battery disconnect switch, disconnect the battery cables from the battery and tape the battery clamps.

Place a do not operate tag at the battery disconnect switch location to inform personnel that the machine is being worked on.

  1. Open the hood.

    Note: Put identification marks on all wires for installation purposes.

  1. Disconnect wires (1) and (2) from the starter.

  1. Remove nut (3). Remove cover (4) from the starter.

  1. Disconnect wire assembly (5) from the starter.

  1. Install a suitable lifting sling and a hoist on electric starting motor (7). Remove bolts (6) and the washers. Remove the electric starting motor. The weight of the electric starting motor is 25 kg (55 lb).

  1. If necessary, replace the gasket on the electric starting motor.

Installation Procedure

  1. If necessary, replace the gasket on the electric starting motor.

  1. Use a suitable lifting sling and a hoist to install electric starting motor (7). Remove the electric starting motor. The weight of the electric starting motor is 25 kg (55 lb). Install bolts (6) and the washers.

  1. Connect wire assembly (5) to the starter. The torque for the switch terminal nut is 2.25 ± .25 N·m (20 ± 2 lb in).

  1. Install cover (4) on the starter. Install nut (3) .

  1. Connect wires (1) and (2) to the starter. The torque for the ground terminal nut and the battery terminal nut is 30.5 ± 3.5 N·m (23 ± 3 lb ft).

  1. Close the hood.

End By: Separate the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
