New Air Cleaner Mounting Channel Helps Prevent Failure{1051,1063}

Usage:

D379, D398, D399 Industrial, Marine and Generator Set Engines;
G379, G398, G399 Natural Gas Engines

Description of Change: A new air cleaner mounting channel is now used on the above engines. The new channel is fastened with six additional bolts so it will not bend and cause cracks. The new channel is now a part of the aftercooler group.

Adaptable To: All the above engines except those equipped with 5L5356 and 4L7643 Aftercooler Assemblies (Box-Type). The new 4W5487 Channel is a direct replacement for the former 6L9438 Channel. For replacement of the former channel, use the new channel, six L2070 Bolts and eighteen 5M2894 Washers.

For machines already in the field, two 25.4 × 25.4 × 3.18 mm (1" × 1" × .125") steel reinforcements can be fabricated and installed to make the existing front and rear channels stronger. The illustration that follows shows the fabrication dimensions for the steel reinforcement. See the chart for the necessary hardware.

For installation of the reinforcement on the front 6L9438 Channel, remove the right hand turbocharger.
