When the bucket is in the position for digging, make the first cut along the outer edge of excavation.
Illustration 2 | g00287820 |
Stockpile material at the front corner in order to leave all sides open.
Illustration 3 | g00689544 |
Make the first cut until the depth is 0.9 m (3 ft). The depth is less in material that is difficult to load. Keep the outer edge of the cut straight and clean. When an external ramp is used, carry the load low. Also avoid backing out of the excavation whenever it is possible.

When the first cut reaches a depth of 0.9 m (3 ft), start the second cut on the opposite side. Stockpile material at the front corner. Cut out the middle area to the same depth as the end cuts. Repeat the procedure until the desired depth is attained.

When the excavation reaches the desired depth, excavate the corners. Carry material up the center of the ramp while the machine is travelling forward.

Then dig out the ramp in order to provide an exit for the machine.
