Introduction

This special instruction provides the guidelines for using the Caterpillar clean out filter elements for the hydraulic oil system. The guidelines are also used with the clean out filter elements for the power train oil system.

Do not perform any procedure that is outlined in this publication or do not order parts until you understand the information that is contained in this document.

For correct maintenance procedures, refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual and Service Manual for your machine.

Guidelines

  1. Use the filter for cleaning the hydraulic oil system or the power train oil system quickly after any service or maintenance. The filter should also be used when an internal condition has allowed an increase in the amount of the system contaminants.

  1. Limit the use of this filter to 250 Service Meter Units (Hours) when you clean out a contaminated system.

  1. Repeated use of the clean out filter should be based on information from a particle count analysis.

  1. If a continued elevated particle count is present after maintenance, refer to your Service Manual for troubleshooting procedures. Elevated particle counts must be corrected as soon as possible.

  1. For maximum cleanliness, keep the protective bag on the filter until you install the filter.
