Installation Instructions for Mounting 154-5634 Fuel Tank (Auxiliary) {1273}

Usage:

515 4LR
Wheel Skidder:
515 (PIN: 4LR1-UP)

Introduction

This Special Instruction provides the necessary information that is required to install the 154-5634 Fuel Tank (Auxiliary) on the machine that is listed above.

The 154-5634 Fuel Tank (Auxiliary) will provide an additional 70 L (18.5 US gal) of fuel for the machine.

Do not perform any procedure that is outlined in this publication, until you understand the information that is contained in this document. Do not order parts until you understand the information that is contained in this document.

Machine Preparation

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Move the machine to a smooth, horizontal location that is away from operating machines and away from personnel.

  1. If the installation is done inside a building, the area should be well ventilated.

  1. Place the transmission direction control switch in the NEUTRAL position.

  1. Engage the parking brake. Place wheel blocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels.

  1. Lower the grapple and the decking blade to the ground.

  1. Stop the engine.

  1. Install the steering frame lock.

  1. Clean the machine in order to remove dirt and debris from the area that is needed to be worked on.

  1. Move the winch control lever to the BRAKE ON position.

  1. Move the control levers through the full range of travel. This will relieve any pressure that may be present in the implement hydraulic system.

Installation Procedure for 154-5634 Fuel Tank (Auxiliary)

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from an explosion.

Applying heat to a tank which has held flammable liquids, even when empty, can result in residual flammable liquid or vapor igniting with explosive force.

Do Not weld or flame cut on any tank that has held flammable liquid without taking the proper precautions. Such as; filling the tank with either carbon dioxide or water.

Read the article in the Service Magazine July 2,, "Welding On Fuel And Hydraulic Tanks".

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from fumes, gases and ultraviolet rays from the weld arc.

Welding can cause fumes, burn skin and produce ultraviolet rays.

Keep your head out of the fumes. Use ventilation, exhaust at the arc, or both, to keep fumes and gases from your breathing area. Wear eye, ear and body protection before working.

Protect yourself and others; read and understand this warning. Fumes and gases can be dangerous to your health. Ultraviolet rays from the weld arc can injure eyes and burn skin. Electric shock can cause death.

Read and understand the manufacturer's instructions and your employer's safety practices. Do not touch live electrical parts.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from flame cutting or welding on painted areas.

The effect of gasses from burned paint is a hazard to the person doing the cutting or welding.

Do not flame cut or weld on painted areas.

----------------------

NOTICE

Before carrying out arc welding on the machine or on any equipment attached to the machine, disconnect all power and ground leads from the batteries in order to avoid possible damage to electronic components.
