Transmission Direction Selector - Rotate the control in order to change the direction of the machine. Rotate the control forward in order to move the machine into the FORWARD position (1). Rotate the control rearward in order to move the machine into the REVERSE position (2). Align the marks on the control in order to select the NEUTRAL position (3) .

Transmission Gear Selector - Press transmission upshift switch (4) in order to upshift the transmission to the next higher gear. Press transmission downshift switch (5) in order to downshift the transmission to the next lower gear. The display on the dashboard will show the direction and the speed of the transmission that has been selected.

Automatic Features of the Transmission

Autoshift Function - The differential steering system is equipped with an autoshift function. The autoshift function allows the operator to preset a FORWARD or REVERSE gear for directional changes.

The autoshift function includes the following settings:

  • first forward to second reverse

  • second forward to second reverse

Autoshift function can be selected with push button (2). The push button is located on the left side of the dashboard. The current mode of operation is shown by lights (1) above the push button. When the machine is started, the machine is in the manual mode. No light is lighted. Repeatedly push the button for the autoshift function in order to select the modes of shifting. The lights will display the desired mode. For the best results, change the options with the transmission in NEUTRAL. If the autoshift functions are not desired, the machine can be operated in the manual mode. The modes of the autoshift function are listed sequentially in the next topic.

Modes of the Autoshift Function

First Forward to Second Reverse Directional Shift Mode - Push button (2) once for the autoshift function. A directional shift to the FORWARD position will always shift to first gear. A directional shift to the REVERSE position will always shift to second gear. With the transmission in the Neutral position, the display for the transmission indicates "N". Speed shifting is manual. Use the buttons to upshift or use the buttons to downshift. Speed shifts have no effect in NEUTRAL.

Second Forward to Second Reverse Directional Shift Mode - Push the button for autoshift function (2) twice. When you shift the transmission to the FORWARD position, the transmission will always shift into second gear. When you shift the transmission to the REVERSE position, the transmission will always shift into second gear. The speed shift mechanism is manual. Use the buttons in order to upshift or use the buttons in order to downshift. Speed shifts have no effect in NEUTRAL.

Auto Kickdown - The transmission provides the operator with an automatic kickdown function. If a significant load increase is detected, this function automatically downshifts the transmission. This function works in forward and reverse gears.

Push button (4) to select the automatic kickdown function. Push button (4) is located on the right side of the dashboard. The current mode of operation is shown by light (3) above the push button. When the machine is started, the transmission will be in the previously selected mode. If you start up the machine, and the kickdown function is not selected, push button (4). If the automatic kickdown function is active, the light will be illuminated. In order to achieve the best results, select the automatic kickdown function with the transmission in NEUTRAL. If the autoshift function is not desired, the machine can be operated in the manual mode.

Automatic kickdown can be operated in the following modes.

Manual Direction Shifting - Automatic kickdown mode allows the transmission to downshift automatically. Use the button on the tiller in order to manually upshift. After a manual upshift, automatic kickdowns are prevented for two seconds. If the transmission is not in NEUTRAL, the operator can make manual shifts at any time.

Manual Shift Mode - Push the autoshift button until no lights are illuminated. The transmission will return to the manual mode. Push the automatic kickdown button until the light is not illuminated. Unless the operator pushes the upshift/downshift buttons for shifting, the transmission will not shift.
