Engine to Torque Converter - Connect

Usage:

Connection Procedure

  1. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the torque converter and the engine prior to the connection.

  1. Replace the O-ring seals that are used in the installation of the torque converter. Use new parts for the replacement.

  1. Install O-ring seal (12) in the groove of the flange face of the torque converter, as shown.

  1. Install large O-ring seal (11) on the torque converter case.

  1. Lubricate the O-ring seals slightly with clean transmission oil.

  1. Use a hoist, suitable lifting chains and Tooling (B) to align torque converter (9) to the engine for the connection.

  1. Fasten the torque converter to the engine with sixteen bolts (8). The torque for the bolts is 215 ± 40 N·m (160 ± 30 lb ft).

  1. Connect hose assembly (5) to the torque converter.

  1. Install bracket (6) that holds hose assembly (7) to the bottom of the torque converter.

  1. Install fan speed solenoid (3) and two bolts (4) .

  1. Connect electrical harness connector (1). Install two harness clips (2) .

End By: Install the engine and the torque converter assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine and Torque Converter - Install".
