3406E and 3456 Generator Set Engines Caterpillar

The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects all of the following conditions:

• The ECM reads signal voltage that is above 4.8 VDC for one second.

• The ECM has been powered for at least three seconds.

• Diagnostic codes 262-03 and 262-04 are not active.

System Response:

The ECM will log the diagnostic code. The diagnostic code may be viewed on a display module or on the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET). The ECM flags the inlet air temperature as invalid data and a default value of 85 °C (185 °F) is used.

Possible Performance Effect:

• Low power

• The engine may emit white smoke at start-up.

Troubleshooting:

Test Step 1. Perform the following diagnostic procedure: "Engine Sensor Open/Short Circuit - Test"

Results:

• OK - STOP
