Illustration 1g00100332

Note: Due to the characteristics of wear on the outer faces of the two outside 9U-1739 Outer Plate, the plates must be reinstalled exactly in the same positions. Assemble the plates and the discs so that a steel plate is at each end of the pack. When you assemble the service brakes, lubricate the discs with final drive oil.

(1) 8V-3609 Retractor Spring

Quantity ... six
Length under test force ... 86.4 mm (3.40 inch)
Test force ... 715 N (161 lb)
Free length after test ... 107.7 mm (4.24 inch)
Outside diameter ... 20.42 mm (.804 inch)

(2) Lubricate seals with the lubricant that is being sealed.

(3) Torque for the bleeder screw ... 11 ± 4 N·m (8 ± 3 lb ft)

(4) Thickness of a new 9U-1739 Outer Plate ... 7.30 ± 0.10 mm (.287 ± .004 inch)

(5) Thickness of a 9U-1738 Friction Disc

New disc ... 6.10 ± 0.13 mm (.240 ± .005 inch)
Worn disc (minimum thickness) ... 4.88 mm (.192 inch)

(6) Use 4C-4079 Brake and Electrical Cleaner (aerosol container) or 9U-6346 Component Cleaner (pump) to clean the thrust washer. Dry the thrust washer with a clean cloth.

(7) Use 4C-4079 Brake and Electrical Cleaner (aerosol container) or 9U-6346 Component Cleaner (pump) to clean the brake anchor. Dry the brake anchor with a clean cloth. Apply 9S-3265 Compound to the mating surface of the brake anchor or to the thrust washer. Assemble the thrust washer and the brake anchor together.

(8) Tighten screws and remove any excess retaining compound from the assembled joint.

(9) Thickness of four discs with five plates

Thickness of new plates with new discs ... 60.90 ± 1.02 mm (2.398 ± .040 inch)
Minimum thickness of worn plates with worn discs ... 56.50 mm (2.224 inch)

Note: To determine the minimum permissible thickness, measure the thickness of each plate and the thickness of each disc. Then, add all of these measurements together.

Note: When the thickness of a disc is measured, measure the depth of each groove in the disc. The depth of a groove must be greater than 0.38 mm (.015 inch).

Reference: For more information about measuring the thickness of a disc and the depth of a groove, refer to Testing and Adjusting, SENR1353, "992G Wheel Loader and 854G Wheel Tractor Braking System", "Service Brake Discs - Check".
