The Procedure for the Removal of the Electronic Unit Injector has Changed {1290}

A change in the removal procedure of the Electronic Unit Injector has occurred in order to improve product reliability.

Remove the rocker arms and the rocker arm shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rocker Arm and Shaft - Remove".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Disconnect harness assembly (1) .

  1. Mark the bridge assemblies (3) and the electronic unit injectors (2) for reference during installation. Each electronic unit injector must be reinstalled in the original electronic unit injector sleeve.

  1. Remove the bridge assemblies (3) .

  1. Remove the bolt (4), spacer (5), and the clamp (6) that holds the electronic unit injector.

  1. Inspect the hold-down assembly.

  1. If the bolt is NOT loose during disassembly, then use Tooling (A) to pry beneath the base and free the electronic unit injector (2) .

  1. Remove electronic unit injector (2) from the cylinder head.

  1. If the hold-down bolt IS loose during disassembly, inspect the following:

  • Inspect the injector bore for debris.

  • Inspect the injector bore for wear.

  • Replace the clamp and replace the spacer.

Note: In ALL instances, replace the fuel injector hold-down bolt with a NEW bolt.
