Heavy Duty Air Cleaner Available, With Precleaner And Automatic Dust Ejector{1051,1055,1061,1062}

Usage:

3406 Industrial And Generator Set Engines

Description of Change: Engine-mounted heavy duty air cleaner systems are now available for 3406 Industrial and Generator Set Engines. The new system uses a centrifugal (cyclone-type) precleaner to remove up to 95% of the dust from the air before it goes into the air cleaner. A dust ejector muffler or exhaust pipe is also used, with a tube connected to the precleaner. The venturi action of the dust ejector removes the dust from the precleaner through the tube, and the dust is then discharged with the exhaust. This automatically keeps the precleaner empty.

The air cleaner used with the system is a two-stage dry-type, with primary and secondary elements. An air cleaner service indicator is part of the group. This air cleaner, with the precleaner and automatic dust ejector, will extend service intervals and improve performance in engine applications where there are large amounts of dust in the air.

Adaptable To: The new air cleaner systems are currently available, and can be ordered as original equipment on new engines according to the engine specifications as shown in Chart A, except engines equipped with water-cooled manifolds. Also, the new air cleaner system can be installed on earlier 3406 Engines 90U1-Up and 75Z1-Up, except those equipped with water-cooled manifolds. The new air cleaner system is not adaptable to engines which have water-cooled manifolds. The new system can be adapted to enclosed package generator sets, but a modification is necessary. A small change must be made to the location of the hole in the enclosure for muffler installation.

For conversion of earlier engines, five different groups are needed, as follows:

1. One 8N9759 Air Cleaner Mounting Group.
2. One 8N9710 Exhaust Elbow Group.
3. One air cleaner group. See Chart B.
4. One precleaner group. See Chart B.
5. One muffler group or exhaust pipe group. See Chart B.

Most of these groups can be ordered only as separate parts (except some precleaner groups as shown in Chart B). After selection of the correct groups, check each group in the NPR and order the separate parts as shown in column three.
