Reinforcement To The Scraper Bowl Sides{6201}

Introduction

This publication provides information to re-enforce the bowl sides. In some applications the sides of the scraper bowl may develop cracks in the area outboard of the fuel tank.

Do not perform any procedure, outlined in this publication, or order any parts until you read and understand the information contained within.

Reference: Service Manual and Parts Manual

NOTE: All welds to be E7018 or comparable wire.

NOTE: Lifting capacity of approximately 225 kg (500 lbs) will be required to complete this replacement.

Preparing the Machine

1. Position the machine on a firm level surface with the bowl down.

2. Remove all paint and oil from the weld area.

3. Repair any existing cracks and grind the repair welds flush.

Fabrication of Parts

NOTE: The corners of all fabricated parts have a maximum radius of 5 mm (.20 in), unless otherwise specified.

Installation Procedure

NOTE: Installation procedure is written for installation on right hand side of scraper bowl. For installation of left hand side use Channel (6) and Angle (8).

1. Install one plate (1) 156 mm (6.14 in), dimension (A), from existing bowl support edge and flush with inside of bowl. Weld plate (1) to bowl side with a 3 mm (.12 in) continuous square groove weld. Grind welds flush to inside of bowl side.

2. Install one strip (2) on existing bowl side edge and flush with inside of bowl. Weld strip (2) to plate (1) with a 5 mm (.20 in) continuous fillet weld and to existing bowl side with a 3 mm (.12 in) continuous square groove weld. Grind welds flush to inside of bowl side.

3. Install one plate (3) 31 mm (1.22 in), dimension (B), from existing bowl support edge. Weld plate (3) to bowl side with a 5 mm (.20 in) continuous fillet weld all around.

4. Install plate (4) 5 mm (.20 in), dimension (C), up from edge of plate (1) and 5 mm (.20 in), dimension (D), in from edge of plate (1). Weld plate (4) to plate (1) and existing bowl side with a 5 mm (.20 in) continuous fillet weld all around.

5. Install channel (5) 16 mm (.63 in), dimension (E), from existing bowl support edge and 42.5 mm (1.67 in), dimension (F), down from edge of plate (1). Weld channel (5) to bowl side and plate (4) with a 5 mm (.20 in) continuous fillet weld all around.

6. Install angle (7) 41 mm (1.61 in), dimension (G), from existing front edge of bowl and 12.7 mm (.50 in), dimension (H), down from top edge of plate (1). Weld angle (7) to side of plate (1) and side of bowl with a 5 mm (.20 in) continuous fillet weld. Also weld angle (7) to channel (5) with a 5 mm (.20 in) plug weld in 5 places.

7. Install plate (9) on end of angle (7). Weld plate (9) to angle (7) and side of bowl with a 5 mm (.20 in) continuous fillet weld all around.

8. Install plate (10) on end of angle (7). Weld plate (10) to angle (7) and side of bowl with a 5 mm (.20 in) continuous fillet weld all around.

9. Install angle (11) 41 mm (1.61 in), dimension (J), from existing front edge of bowl and resting on top of angle (7). Weld angle (11) to top of angle (7) and side of bowl with a 5 mm (.20 in) continuous fillet weld all around.

10. Install plate (12) on end of angle (11). Weld plate (12) to angle (11) with a 5 mm (.20 in) continuous fillet weld all around.

11. Repeat procedure for left hand side of machine using channel (6) and angle (8).
