Air Inlet Heater - Remove and Install

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Disconnect the harness assembly from electrical connector (1).

  2. Disconnect fuel line (3) from the air inlet heater.

  3. Remove air inlet heater (2) from the inlet manifold.

  1. Clean the threads of the air inlet heater. Clean the threads of the inlet manifold.

  2. Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of the air inlet heater. Install air inlet heater (2) into the inlet manifold.

    Note: The electrical connector (1) must be facing toward the front of the engine.

  3. Connect fuel line (3) onto air inlet heater (2). Tighten the fuel line nut to a torque of 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  4. Remove the air from the fuel system. Refer to the Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting Module, "Fuel System - Prime" topic for additional information on removing the air from the fuel system.

  5. Connect the harness assembly to electrical connector (1).
