The Service Life Of A Power Shift Transmission Is In Direct Relation To The Maintenance Of Its Lubrication System{3004,3179,3150}

Usage:

The same conditions exist today as when the power shift transmission was first used many years ago. That is, the most important single factor in long service life from a power shift transmission is the use of correct oil and filter change intervals. Through the years, users have become aware of (know) how important the change interval is for the engine crankcase lubricating oil and the engine oil filter. However, some users do not remember how important it is to change the oil and filters in the power shift transmission at regular intervals.

The oil used for cooling and lubrication of a power shift transmission which has a lubrication system common with the steering clutches and brakes, will have material worn from the steering clutches and brakes in addition to material from the gears, bearings and clutches of the transmission. If foreign material in the lubrication system completely fills the oil filter element, the filter bypass valve will open. This will permit the foreign material to return to the lubrication system. Parts which have exact tolerances, such as transmission bearings, seal rings and valve spools, cannot give the service life designed into them if this foreign material is permitted in the lubrication system for an extended period of time.

The exact tolerances of a power shift transmission are equal to that of a diesel engine and the same degree of maintenance is necessary for long service life.
