Start By:
- Remove the front housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Housing (Front) - Remove".
- Remove the flywheel housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel Housing - Remove and Install".
- Remove the crankshaft front seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Front Seal - Remove".
- Remove the crankshaft rear seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Rear Seal - Remove".
Note: Put identification marks on the engine block, main bearing caps, and main bearings during the removal procedure. Identification marks will ensure proper installation during the installation procedure.

- Position the engine on Tooling (A).

- Remove connecting rod caps (1).
- Push the piston assemblies toward the cylinder heads.

- Attach a suitable lifting device to crankshaft (8). The weight of crankshaft (8) is approximately
215 kg (475 lb) . Remove crankshaft (8).Show/hide tableIllustration 6 g01096769 - Use Tooling (C) to remove crankshaft gear (3). Use Tooling (D) to remove the dowel that is under crankshaft gear (3) if a replacement is necessary.
