A New Flywheel Housing Gasket Is Now Available For Engines With A PTO {1157, 1165}

Usage:

C-12 1YN
Engine:
C-10 (S/N: 2PN1-2340; 3CS1-21076; 8YS1-7736)
C-12 (S/N: 1YN1-12843; 2KS1-66990; 9NS1-20215)

Description of Change: A new gasket for the flywheel housing is now available for the engines that are listed above. The new gasket for the flywheel housing replaces the former anaerobic sealant. The new design uses high strength bolts and washers with a larger diameter.

Adaptable To: The new 200-2284 Gasket for the flywheel housing replaces the former 8T-9022 Silicone Gasket anaerobic sealant. The new 200-2284 Gasket for the flywheel housing can be used on the engines that are listed above after modifying the flywheel housing. The new flywheel housing 200-2284 Gasket is now in production on C-10 (S/N: 2PN2341-UP; 3CS21077-UP; 8YS7737-UP) and C-12 (S/N: 1YN12844-UP; 2KS66991-UP; 9NS20216-UP). When you install the new 200-2284 Gasket for the flywheel housing use the following procedure.

Installation Procedure

    (1) O-Ring seal

    (2) Sealing face

  1. The flywheel housing must be machined for the new gasket. Remove 0.82 mm (0.032 inch) from the sealing face (2) of the flywheel housing. This will leave a finish dimension of 219.68 mm (8.649 inch). The machined finish should match the current surface finish on the housing. The surface finish is equivalent to 3.2 µm (128 µin) or a "F" surface finish in Caterpillar Standards. Flatness requirements are 0.2 mm (0.008 inch) overall with a specific requirement of 0.08 mm (0.003 inch) over a 25 mm (0.984 inch) length.

  1. Installation of this gasket still requires the 6V-5134 O-Ring Seal at the port for the oil gallery (1) .

  1. Apply a bead of 8T-9022 Silicone Gasket 2 mm (0.080 inch) to 3 mm (0.118 inch) wide to the lower edges of the cylinder block.

  1. Install the gasket and apply another bead of 8T-9022 Silicone Gasket to the lower edges of the gasket.

    (3) Bolts and washers

  1. Install 12 8T-0273 High Strength Bolts and 5P-1076 Hard Washers. Tighten all 12 mounting bolts to 105 ± 20 N·m (77 ± 15 lb ft).

    Note: Do not use standard 6V-8197 Bolts .

  1. Apply 8T-9022 Silicone Gasket to the right and the left edges of the cylinder block prior to installation.

  1. Install Oil Pan.
