3512B Marine Auxiliary Engine Caterpillar

Exhaust Temperature Is Too High

Usage:

3512 4DR
The probable root causes are listed in order below:

  • Exhaust restriction

  • Engine speed/timing sensor

  • Electrical connectors

  • Injector

  • Air leak

Perform the following tests in order:

  1. Check the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) for the following logged Diagnostic Codes: 190-02 and 190-08. Refer to the diagnostic functional test Troubleshooting, "Engine Speed/Timing Sensor".

  1. Check for the correct installation of the connectors for the Electronic Control Module (ECM) J2/P2 and Electronic Fuel Injector connector J4/P4 through J15/P15. Refer to the diagnostic functional test Troubleshooting, "Inspecting Electrical Connectors".

  1. Use the Cat ET to determine if any diagnostic codes for the Injector Solenoids are present. Perform the Injector Solenoid Test. Observe that the injector solenoids are being energized on the Cat ET. Perform the Cylinder Cutout Test. Locate the misfiring cylinder. Refer to the diagnostic functional test Troubleshooting, "Injector Solenoids".

  1. Check the air pressure in the air inlet manifold. Check for air inlet leaks. Look for restrictions at the air cleaner. Check for leaks between the exhaust manifold and the turbocharger.

  1. Check for exhaust restrictions.
