Required Tools
Tool     Part Number     Part Description     Qty
(A)     FT-2674     Vacuum Cap     1
(B)     138-7573     Link Bracket     2

Note: O-rings, gaskets and seals should always be replaced. A used O-ring may not have the same sealing properties as a new O-ring. A reconditioning procedure should not be degraded because of a low cost component such as an O-ring or a gasket. Use 1U-6396 O-Ring Assembly Compound during the assembly procedure.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: Make sure that the threaded holes in the undercarriage frame assembly for mounting the swivel joint are clean and free of dirt and debris.

  1. Apply a bead of 1U-8846 Liquid Gasket to the surface of the undercarriage frame assembly prior to the installation of the swivel joint.

  1. Apply 9S-3263 Thread Lock Compound on the threads of bolts (10). Install the washers and bolts (10) .

  1. Connect hoses (11) to the tee. Tighten hoses (11) to a torque of 80 ± 7 N·m (59 ± 5 lb ft).

  1. Install tee fitting (13) in the swivel joint. Tighten the tee to a torque of 40 ± 5 N·m (30 ± 4 lb ft).

  1. Connect hoses (12) to tee (13). Tighten hoses (12) to a torque of 40 ± 5 N·m (30 ± 4 lb ft).

  1. Install the split flanges, the washers, and the bolts in order to connect hoses (9) .

  1. Install the two covers (7) underneath the swivel. Install five bolts (8) and the washers that are used to mount covers (7) .

  1. Remove the hoist and Tooling (B) from the swivel.

  1. Install the rubber boot on the swivel.

  1. Install the retainer. Install the washers and bolts (5). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 37 ± 4 N·m (27 ± 3 lb ft).

  1. Install hose clamp (6). Tighten the hose clamp to a torque of 5.4 ± 0.5 N·m (47.71 ± 4.34 lb in).

  1. Connect hose (3) .

  1. Install the split flanges, the washers, and bolts (2) in order to connect the hoses. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 190 ± 20 N·m (140 ± 15 lb ft).

  1. Connect hose assemblies (1) .

  1. Install high efficiency filters in place of the pilot filter, case drain filter, and the return filter.

Note: High efficiency filters should not be run for more than 250 hours before you change back to the standard filters.

  1. Remove Tooling (A) from the hydraulic tank.

  1. Fill the hydraulic oil tank with clean hydraulic oil to the correct level.

Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" for the proper oil viscosity.

Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Level - Check" for the correct filling procedures.

  1. Install the cap to the hydraulic tank.

  1. Obtain a hydraulic oil sample from the main S·O·S port.

Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Scheduled Oil Sampling (S·O·S)" for the correct location.

  1. If the S·O·S sample exceeds ISO 18/15, flush the hydraulic system.

Reference: Refer to Contamination Control Guidelines, SEBF8436, "Hydraulic System Flushing Procedure for 322C Hydraulic Excavators" for further information.
