The factory default settings have been changed on some Ground Fault Monitors. These Ground Fault Monitors may be installed on the Caterpillar Generator Sets that are listed above.
A ground fault monitor measures a generator set's ground fault leakage current. Ground fault monitors determine the insulation level on single-phase systems and three-phase systems. These single-phase systems and three-phase systems can be grounded, high resistance grounded, or ungrounded.
When ground fault leakage current exceeds the alarm set point value, the alarm LED will illuminate and the alarm relay will activate (following an adjustable time delay). The following settings can be selected on the alarm relay switch:
- normally energized or normally de-energized
- with latching or without latching (fault memory)
The factory default settings are being changed so that generator sets equipped with the ground fault option leave the packaging plant with the ground fault module set to detect a minimum amount of leakage current (10 mA - 100 mA). Prior to shipping, the DIP switch settings on the Ground Fault Module are set as shown in Illustration 1 and Table 1. At the job site, these settings can be changed in order to be load specific.
