Start By:

  1. Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".

  2. Remove the buffer. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Buffer - Remove and Install".

------ WARNING! ------

The accumulator is filled with dry nitrogen. Sudden release of nitrogen pressure can cause personal injury.

To avoid personal injury, release the nitrogen pressure from the accumulator before disassembly.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Ensure that the hammer is secure, in an upright position, and cannot fall.

  2. Remove plug (1).

  3. Remove plug (2).

  4. Slowly turn plug (3) in a counterclockwise direction. When dry nitrogen gas begins to escape, stop turning plug (3). When the gas discharge can no longer be heard, turn plug (3) for another 360 degrees in a counterclockwise direction.

  5. Remove plug (3).

  6. Install Tooling (A) onto the hydraulic accumulator.

  7. Remove bolts (4).

  8. Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to hydraulic accumulator (5). Refer to Table 2 for the approximate weight of hydraulic accumulator (5). Remove hydraulic accumulator (5).
