Pressure Control Valve (Operating Pressure) - Test and Adjust

Usage:

H120E S HHE

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hot oil spray and raised work tools.

Make sure all the work tools have been lowered, the oil is cool and the pressure has been released from the hydraulic system before removing any components or lines.

Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

Note: The operating pressure of the hammer will vary with the amount of back pressure, input flow, and the hardness of the material. The operating pressure of the hammer will be lower during operation against a harder material such as a steel plate. The operating pressure of the hammer will be higher during operation against a softer material such as rock or concrete.

  1. Stop the host machine's engine.

    (B) Plug

  2. Slowly loosen plug (B) in order to vent the internal pressure.

  3. Remove the plug from the pressure measuring port (A) on the check valve.

  4. Connect a 25000 kPa (3600 psi) pressure gauge to the high pressure measuring port (A) on the check valve housing.

  5. Tighten plug (B) to a torque of 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

  6. Start the host machine. Run the host machine at high idle until the hydraulic oil reaches the normal operating temperature of 50° ± 10°C (122° ± 18°F).

  7. Position the hammer tool vertically on a thick steel plate and operate the hammer.

Note: If the host machine has a switch for power mode, the engine must be set to the maximum RPM. If the host machine has a switch for work mode, the engine must be set to the maximum RPM.

    (C) Low Pressure
    (D) High Pressure
    (E) Average Pressure

  8. Read the average pressure (E) from the pressure gauge. Factory adjustment should be verified. The average high pressure at port (A) is the hammer's operating pressure. The operating pressure of the hammer is typically between 13500 kPa to 16000 kPa (1958 psi to 2320 psi). If the operating pressure of the hammer is not within these ranges, the operating pressure must be adjusted.

Note: If adjustments are necessary, refer to Steps 9 through 14 for the adjustment procedures.

Note: If no adjustments are necessary, stop the host machine in order to release hydraulic pressure and go to Step 13.

    (B) Plug

Note: The engine of the host machine must be stopped and the host machine must be secured before each adjustment.

  9. Slowly loosen plug (B) in order to vent the internal pressure. Refer to Illustration 3.

Example of the pressure control valve

  10. Depress lock mechanism (1) to allow adjustment of operating pressure.

  11. Turn adjuster (2) counterclockwise in order to decrease the pressure. Turn adjuster (2) clockwise in order to increase the pressure. One quarter turn of adjuster (2) will change the operating pressure of the hammer approximately 500 kPa (73 psi).

  12. Once the proper operating pressure has been reached, tighten plug (B) to a torque of 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

  13. Remove the pressure gauge.

  14. Install the plug back into pressure measuring port (A). Tighten the plug on pressure measuring port (A) to a torque of 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

Note: Operating pressure must be tested after each adjustment.
