Heat Exchanger - Remove - 3056 Engine

Usage:

3056 CKS

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Turbocharged Engines

  1. Disconnect the terminals at the battery.

  1. Drain the cooling system. If the engine uses diesel engine antifreeze/coolant, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change". If the engine uses extended life coolant, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".

  1. Drain the sea water circuit. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Sea Water Strainer - Clean/Inspect" for more information.

  1. Loosen the hose clamps from hose (1) and slide the hose toward the front of the engine.

  1. Loosen the hose clamps from hose (3) and slide the hose upward.

  1. Loosen the hose clamps from hose (5) and remove the hose from the heat exchanger.

  1. Loosen the hose clamps from hose (6) and remove the hose from the heat exchanger.

  1. Loosen the hose clamps from hose (2) and slide the hose toward the back of the engine.

  1. Loosen the hose clamps from hose (4). Slide hose (4) toward the back of the engine. Remove water temperature regulator housing (7) from the heat exchanger.

  1. Support the heat exchanger. Remove bolt (8) from the support bracket.

  1. Support the heat exchanger and remove two bolts (9) from the support bracket.

  1. Remove the heat exchanger from the engine.

Naturally Aspirated Engines

  1. Disconnect the terminals at the battery.

  1. Drain the cooling system. If the engine uses diesel engine antifreeze/coolant, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change". If the engine uses extended life coolant, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".

  1. Drain the sea water circuit. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Sea Water Strainer - Clean/Inspect" for more information.

  1. Loosen the hose clamps from hose (1) and slide the hose toward the front of the engine.

  1. Loosen the hose clamps from hose (3) and slide the hose upward.

  1. Loosen the hose clamp from hose (5) and remove the hose from the heat exchanger.

  1. Remove the hose clamp from hose (6) and remove the hose from the heat exchanger.

  1. Loosen the hose clamps from hose (2) and slide the hose toward the back of the engine.

  1. Loosen the hose clamps from hose (4). Slide hose (4) toward the back of the engine. Remove water temperature regulator housing (8) from the heat exchanger.

  1. Remove two bolts (7) that fasten the transmission oil cooler to the heat exchanger.

  1. Support the heat exchanger. Remove bolt (9) from the support bracket.

  1. Support the heat exchanger and remove two bolts (10) from the support bracket.

  1. Remove the heat exchanger from the engine.
