ReferenceSpecial Instruction, REHS3359, "Installation of Shut Off Valves for a Thumb on a Backhoe Loader"

The thumb needs to be locked in the retracted position when other work tools are used. Also, there is a need to retain the thumb's hydraulic lines when another hydraulic work tool is connected to the host machine.

Shut off valves have been released in order to lock the thumb in the retracted position hydraulically. In addition, the thumb is now directly connected to the auxiliary hydraulic lines above the quick disconnects on the stick. This leaves the quick disconnects available for use with other work tools. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS3359, "Installation of Shut Off Valves for a Thumb on a Backhoe Loader".
