Oil Pan - Remove and Install - Engine in Chassis

Usage:

M325C MH PAN

Removal Procedure

Note: Before you begin the following procedure, swing the upper frame so that the upper frame is parallel with the undercarriage.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.

Do not allow hot oil or components to contact the skin.

Be sure that the engine and components are cool enough to touch with your bare hand prior to performing any service work.

  1. Drain the oil from the engine into a suitable container for storage or for disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for the proper procedure.

  1. Remove bolts (1) and remove guard (2) .

  1. Remove bolts (3) and remove access panels (4) .

  1. Disconnect harness assembly (5) .

  1. Remove bolts (6) and remove oil pan (7). Remove the gasket (not shown) from oil pan (7) .

Installation Procedure

  1. Clean the mating surfaces of the engine oil pan and the cylinder block. Apply Tooling (A) to the front housing and the cylinder block surface. Apply Tooling (A) to the flywheel housing and the cylinder block surface. Use approximately 0.5 mm (0.02 inch) of Tooling (A) at each location.

    Note: Do not put Tooling (A) on the oil pan gasket or on the gasket surface of the engine oil pan.

  1. Position a new oil pan gasket (not shown) onto engine oil pan (7). Position oil pan (7) and install bolts (6) .

  1. Connect harness assembly (5) .

  1. Position access panels (4) and install bolts (3) .

  1. Position guard (2) and install bolts (1) .

  1. Fill the engine with oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)".
