Engine Starts but Stalls Immediately

Probable Causes

  • Fuel supply

  • Poor electrical connectors

  • Battery power or ground to the Timing Control Module (TCM)

  • Incorrect installation of the Magneto Interface Box (MIB) and/or TCM

Recommended Repairs

Fuel Supply

Check the fuel pressure when you start the engine. Check the fuel pressure during normal engine operation. Check the fuel lines for foreign objects which may restrict the fuel supply.

Electrical Connectors

Check the wiring harness and the connectors. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Inspecting Electrical Connectors".

Battery Power or Ground

Check the electrical power supply. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Power Supply". Verify that the ground connections and the battery negative posts are securely mated and free of corrosion.

Magneto Interface Box (MIB) and/or TCM

Check for proper installation of the MIB and the TCM.

Check the actual timing as the engine shuts down. If the actual timing reads zero, refer to Troubleshooting, "No Magneto Interface Signal".
