Certain Excavators are now ready for the Product Link 201. The Product Link system is a monitoring system that communicates via a satellite system. The system provides two-way communications between the onboard systems of the machine and Caterpillar dealers and customers.

Installation of the Product Link 201 can now be completed without welding on the machine and without altering the original wiring harness. The mounting locations for the Product Link Module and the antenna are already established and prepared for ease of installation. The machine harness has a 6-pin dt connector for the connection to the Product Link 201. The total time for installation and setup is approximately 30 minutes.

Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7351, "Product Link 151/201" for detailed instructions on the Product Link: system operation, installation, setup procedures, operation and testing and adjusting.

  1. Connect wiring harness (4) to the Product Link module.

  1. Connect the antenna cables (3) to the Product Link module. The ends of the wires for the antenna are unique and the wires cannot be improperly connected.

  1. Secure wiring harness (4) and antenna cables at 457 mm (18 inch) intervals.

    • Use tie straps to secure the wiring to the clips.

    • Do not route the wiring near any source of extreme heat (exhaust).

    • Do not route the wiring by locations that may cause abrasion.

    • Do not make sharp bends in the wiring.

    • Ensure that any excess wiring from the antenna is coiled and properly secured.

Note: Do not shorten the wires for the antenna.

  1. Turn on the machine disconnect switch.

  1. Use a computer with the Electronic Technician software to set the hours and the configuration parameters for the Product Link module.

Note: Refer to the setup procedure in Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7351, "Product Link 151/201".

  1. Check the Product Link module for proper operation.

Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7351, "Product Link 151/201".

  1. Install film (5) on the inside of the cab window.

  1. Place the Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7351, "Product Link 151/201" in the literature compartment in the cab.
