Host Machine Pressure and Flow - Test

Usage:

GH52 7DW

------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oils can cause burns.

To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the implement hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.

Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Circuit for the Shells

  1. Lower the work tool to the ground and stop the engine of the host machine. Relieve the pressure from the hydraulic system. Refer to the Service Manual for the host machine for the proper procedure.

    (1) Circuit for the opening of the shells

    (2) Circuit for the closing of the shells

  1. Remove the hose of the host machine from coupling (1). Cap the hose in order to prevent contamination.

  1. Install Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) on coupling (1) .

  1. Start the engine of the host machine and operate the machine until the hydraulic oil reaches normal operating temperature.

  1. Open the shells of the work tool. Close the shells and continue to hold the control in the CLOSE position in order to allow the cylinder to stall. Observe the pressure on the gauge. The pressure should be 27580 kPa (4000 psi). If the pressure is not within the specification, the pressure must be adjusted accordingly. Refer to the Service Manual for the host machine for the proper procedure.

  1. After adjustments have been made, stop the engine on the host machine and relieve the hydraulic pressure. Remove the tooling from the work tool.

    (1) Circuit for the opening of the shells

    (2) Circuit for the closing of the shells

  1. Disconnect hose assembly of the host machine from coupling (2) on the work tool. The two hoses that were connected to coupling (1) and to coupling (2) complete the circuit from the host machine to the circuit of the shells for the work tool. Plug the couplings on the work tool in order to prevent contamination.

  1. Install Tooling (A) and Tooling (C) between the two hoses.

  1. Start the engine of the host machine and operate the machine until the hydraulic oil reaches normal operating temperature.

Note: The flow meter will only measure the flow in one direction. Ensure that the control is selected for the corresponding direction of the flow meter.

  1. Operate the control on the host machine for the circuit of the shells. Observe the flow on the meter. The flow should be 35 ± 5 L/min (9.2 ± 1.3 US gpm). If the flow is not within the specification, the flow must be adjusted accordingly. Refer to the Service Manual for the host machine for the proper procedure.

  1. After adjustments have been made, stop the engine on the host machine and relieve the hydraulic pressure. Remove the tooling and install the two hose assemblies.

  1. The air must be purged from the work tool before operation. Refer to Service Manual, "Hydraulic System Air - Purge" for the proper procedure.

Rotate Circuit

  1. Lower the work tool to the ground and stop the engine of the host machine. Relieve the pressure from the hydraulic system. Refer to the Service Manual for the host machine for the proper procedure.

    (4) Circuit for rotating to the right

  1. Disconnect the two hose assemblies of the host machine from coupling (3) and from coupling (4) of the work tool. The two hoses complete the circuit from the host machine to the rotate circuit of the work tool. Plug the couplings on the work tool in order to prevent contamination.

  1. Install Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) between the two hoses.

  1. Start the engine of the host machine and operate the machine until the hydraulic oil reaches normal operating temperature.

  1. Operate the control on the host machine for the rotate circuit. Observe the pressure on the gauge. The pressure should be 11030 kPa (1600 psi). If the pressure is not within the specification, the pressure must be adjusted accordingly. Refer to the Service Manual for the host machine for the proper procedure.

  1. After adjustments have been made, stop the engine on the host machine and relieve the hydraulic pressure. Remove the tooling.

  1. Install Tooling (A) and Tooling (C) between the two hoses.

  1. After adjustments have been made, stop the engine on the host machine and relieve the hydraulic pressure. Remove the tooling and install the two hose assemblies to the couplings on the work tool.
