Engine Starting

Do not use aerosol types of starting aids such as ether. Such use could result in an explosion and personal injury. |
- Move all hydraulic controls to the HOLD position or to the NEUTRAL position.
- Move the hydraulic lockout control to the RAISED position.
Note: The engine will not start unless the hydraulic lockout control is in the RAISED position.
- Move the governor control lever to full travel before you start the engine.
- If the engine is cold,turn the engine start switch key counterclockwise and hold the key in this position for twenty seconds.

NOTICE Do not crank the engine for more than 20 seconds. Allow the starter to cool for two minutes before cranking again.
- Turn the engine start switch key to the START position.
- When the engine starts, release the engine start switch key.
- If the engine does not start, release the engine start switch key and allow the starter motor to cool. Then, repeat steps 4 through step 6.
- After the engine starts, move the governor control lever to LOW IDLE and allow the engine to warm up. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine and Machine Warm-Up".
