Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the undercarriage frame. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Undercarriage Frame - Remove".

1. Put an alignment mark on the swing gear and bearing and the undercarriage frame for assembly purposes. Remove bolts (2) and the spacers that hold swing gear and bearing (1) to the undercarriage frame.

2. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the swing gear and bearing, as shown. The bolts and spacers that hold the upper structure to the undercarriage frame can be used to install Tooling (A) .

3. Remove the swing gear and bearing. The weight of the swing gear and bearing is approximately 227 kg (500 lb).

4. Put tape over the sealing surfaces of the dust seals, the inner race and the outer race. The tape will prevent the cleaning solvent from entering the cross section of the dust seals. Thoroughly clean the swing gear and bearing.

5. Remove dust seals (3) and (4) from the outer race and the inner race of the swing gear and bearing.

6. Clean the sealing grooves of the inner race and the outer race with a fine grit sandpaper. Use a cleaning solvent to clean the seal grooves. Be sure that the seal grooves are thoroughly clean and dry prior to installing new dust seals.

Installation Procedure

1. Lay a new dust seal (3) around the outer race in order to determine the length that is required. Cut the new seal approximately 10 mm (.4 inch) shorter than the length that is required. Cut the seal at an angle of 90 degrees. Use a file to smoothen the cross section cut of the seal.

2. Use Tooling (B) to install new dust seal (3) in the outer race. Be sure that the adhesive is applied to the 90 degree cross section cut. Install the seal, as shown.

3. Install a new dust seal (4) in the inner race. Follow the procedure in Steps 1 and 2.

4. Lubricate the swing gear and bearing with clean grease.

5. Clean the mating surface for the swing gear and bearing on the undercarriage frame. Apply Tooling (C) on the mating surface. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to swing gear and bearing (1). Place the swing gear and bearing in position on the undercarriage frame. The weight of the swing gear and bearing is approximately 227 kg (500 lb).

6. Be sure that the Stamp "S" is positioned on the inner race, as shown.

7. Apply Tooling (D) on the threads of bolts (2). Install the spacers and bolts (2) that hold the swing gear and bearing to the undercarriage frame. Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 570 ± 60 N·m (420 ± 44 lb ft).

8. Apply Tooling (E) to the swing gear and bearing.

End By: Install the undercarriage frame. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Undercarriage Frame - Install".
