Water Pump - Install

Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Water pumps may leak as a result of damaged face seals. Relative movement between the shaft and the housing may allow the drive shaft to contact the face seal in the water pump. If contact occurs, the face seal will be damaged, and very early hour failures can result.

Refer to Special Instruction , REHS9244 for proper water pump handling procedures prior to installation.

Ensure that the gasket for the water line adapter and the O-ring seal on the water pump are in the correct position. Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean unused engine oil.
Attach a suitable lifting device to water pump (8). The weight of water pump (8) is approximately 38 kg (85 lb). Install water pump (8). Ensure that the splines on water pump (8) are correctly positioned. Install bolts (6) and (7).

Lubricate the O-ring seals on tube assembly (3) with clean unused engine oil. Install tube assembly (3).
Install support bracket (5) and the bolt.
Install the bolts and retainer (2) on elbow (1).
Install bolts (4) and the retainer.
Fill the cooling system to the correct level with coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".
