Rework Procedure
MATERIALS: Make 2 of the reinforcement plates as indicated in Illustration #1.
- Illustration 1
- Use ASTM A572 Grade 42 or 50 steel (yield strength 290 Mpa (42,000 psi)) minimum) steel. If this is not available, find equivalent minimum yield strength steel that is weldable.
- PROCEDURE:
2) Remove grease from boom foot bore and stick cylinder bore.
3) Set stick in safe position, laying on its side,
- Illustration 2
5) Take 1 reinforcement plate, and place on side of the stick as illustrated in Illustration #2. Use a piece of chalk and mark the outline of the plate. Remove plate.
6) Remove paint in all areas where the chalk marks were made. This ensures good penetration when welding.
7) Place plate on side of stick. Ensure that the plate is flush with the existing side plate. Eliminate gaps between reinforcement plate and side plate. If gaps are found, check to make sure reinforcement plate is not "riding" on top of an existing weld. Ensure that the welder will be able to reach the root in all areas. Grind if necessary to make appropriate space.
8) Weld as instructed per Illustration #2. Note that there is an area that requires grinding smooth after welding (at C). Transition all ends smoothly when welding. Needle peen all areas after welding.
Note: Referring to Illustration #2, A and F, this weld needs to blend smoothly into the stick foot boss.
9) Repeat steps 5-8 on the opposite side of the stick.
10) After welding, measure stick foot bore diameter and stick cylinder bore diameter. If after welding the dimensions are not met as indicated on Illustration #2, reweld and rebore those bores.
Note: Both bores need to be parallel within 1mm after machining.
11) Press 2 of 148-3090 bearing (stick foot) and 2 of 151-0650 bearing (stick cylinder) into the stick. Freezing to ?70 deg F is recommended before pressing.
Note: The bearings need to be pressed in (recessed) 9.5mm from the bore surface.
12) Paint repair area.
13) Reinstall stick to boom.
