C-18 Truck Engines Caterpillar

The maintenance of the compression brake should be performed in conjunction with scheduled engine maintenance.

Inspect the following components of the compression brake.

• Master piston return springs

• Terminal connections

• Wiring harness

Inspect the slave piston adjusting screw of the compression brake. Adjust this component, as required.

Note: The slave piston adjustment must be performed after the engine valve lash is performed. Make the slave piston adjustment while the engine is stopped.

Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual for further information.

Adjust the clutch switch or buffer switch of the compression brake.

Refer to the literature that is provided by the OEM of the vehicle.
