Disassembly Procedure


NOTICE

Ensure that the engine is stopped before any servicing or repair is performed.



NOTICE

Inspect all O-rings, seals, and gaskets for wear and damage. Replace if necessary.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Cat Dealer Service Tool Catalog" or refer to Special Publication, PECJ0003, "Cat Shop Supplies and Tools Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: Refer to Special Instruction, REHS8231, "Removal Procedures for Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Connectors" for the correct removal procedure of hose assemblies (2) and (5).

  1. Disconnect latch (1).

  2. Remove 14 bolts (3) and two covers (4).

  3. Remove 28 bolts (5) and front cover (2).

  4. Remove 18 bolts (6) and top cover (7).

    Note: Record the position of all tube and harness assemblies for use in assembly procedure.

  5. Remove all mounting hardware (8).

    Note: Hose assemblies on four diesel exhaust fluid pump groups (12) are color coded to assist with organization.

  6. Disconnect harness assemblies (14) and remove hose assemblies (9) and (10).

  7. Disconnect hose assembly (11) and position out of the way.

  8. Repeat Steps6 and 7 on four diesel exhaust fluid pump groups (12).

  9. Disconnect eight harness assemblies (14) from wiring harness (13) and electrical harness (15).

    Note: To maintain cleanliness, properly cap all hoses and ports.

  10. Disconnect harness assemblies (16) from control valve assembly (17) and loosen hose clamp (20).

  11. Remove four bolts (18) and control valve/tube assembly (19).

  12. Repeat Steps 9 and 10 for each control valve/tube assembly (19).

  13. Remove hose clamps (20) and hose assemblies (21) and (23).

  14. Remove four bolts (22).

  15. Release special connector (24).

  16. Disconnect harness assembly (26).

  17. Remove three bolts (25) and diesel exhaust fluid pump group (12).

  18. Repeat Steps 14 through 16 for each diesel exhaust fluid pump group (12).

  19. Pull two tabs (29) on harness assemblies (27) and (28) to disconnect and position out of the way.

  20. Remove four bolts (30) and electronic control module (31).

  21. Disconnect two hose assemblies (32) and position out of the way.

  22. Disconnect two harness assemblies (33).

  23. Loosen two hose clamps (20) and remove six bolts (34) on each hose assembly attached to diesel exhaust fluid manifold assembly (35).

  24. Remove two diesel exhaust manifold assemblies (35A) and two diesel exhaust manifold assemblies (35).

  25. Remove four bolts (36) and solenoid valve and mounting group (37).

  26. Repeat Steps 21 through 24 on the opposite side.

    Note: If dropped onto a hard surface, this part should NOT be used.

  27. Loosen hose clamp (38) from position (39) and remove filter (41).

  28. Remove hose clamp (20) and hose assembly (40).

  29. Remove plate (42).

  30. Disconnect harness assembly (44), remove two bolts (43), and solid-state relay assembly (45).

  31. Remove two bolts (46) and position switch assembly (47) out of the way.

  33. Loosen two bolts (49) enough to remove two connector plug assemblies (50).

  34. Remove four bolts (51), electronic control group (54), and bracket (55).

  35. Remove hose assemblies (52) and (53).

  36. Remove voltage control. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Voltage Control (Load Protection) - Remove and Install".

  37. Remove two bolts (56) and push connector receptacle assembly (57) inside.

  38. Remove bolt (58) and position electric line (59) out of the way.

  39. Remove bolt (60) and position three ground wires (61) out of the way.

  40. Disconnect four plugs (64).

  41. Remove four nuts (62) and four relays (63).

  42. Remove four bolts (65) and block assembly (66).

  43. Remove two nuts (67) and push two receptacle assemblies (68) inside.

  44. Remove electrical harness/tube assembly (13) from tank (69).

  49. Remove nut (76) adapter (77). Nut (76) is not shown.

  52. Remove screen (83). Inspect screen (83) for contaminants. Clean or replace if necessary.
