(6) Camshaft gear

Tighten the bolts that secure the camshaft assembly to the cylinder block to the following torque. ... 9 N·m (80 lb in)

(7) Idler gear and hub

Inside diameter of the idler gear bushing ... 28.077 to 28.098 mm (1.1054 to 1.1062 inch)
Outside diameter of the idler gear hub ... 28.048 to 28.061 mm (1.1042 to 1.1048 inch)
Clearance of the bushing on the hub ... 0.016 to 0.050 mm (0.0006 to 0.0020 inch)
Minimum backlash for the crankshaft gear to the oil pump gear and to the idler gear ... 0.076 mm (0.0030 inch)
Minimum backlash for all other gears ... 0.05 mm (0.002 inch)

(8) Crankshaft gear

Inside diameter of gear ... 31.936 to 31.961 mm (1.2573 to 1.2583 inch)
Outside diameter of the crankshaft ... 31.979 to 32.000 mm (1.2590 to 1.2598 inch)
Interference fit of crankshaft gear to crankshaft ... -0.018 to -0.064 mm (-0.0007 to -0.0025 inch)

Note: Heat the crankshaft gear (8) to a maximum temperature of 180 °C (356 °F). Use a radiant oven to heat the crankshaft gear.

(9) The top center position of No. 1 piston on the compression stroke is indicated when all of the following timing marks are aligned:

  • Gear of the camshaft for the fuel injection pump and the idler gear

  • Gear of the camshaft for the valves and the idler gear

  • Crankshaft gear and the idler gear

  • Crankshaft pulley and the timing case (not shown)
