Lift and Tilt Cylinder Drift - Check

Usage:

R1700K KT4

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from sudden movement of the lift or tilt cylinders.

Sudden movement up or down, can cause the clearance above your head to change rapidly.

Do not stand under the lift arms when testing and adjusting the lift cylinders.

Do not stand under the bucket when testing or adjusting the tilt cylinder.

Introduction

The following procedure will check the drift rate of the lift and tilt cylinders.

Check Preparation

  1. Move the machine to a flat open area so that the lift arms can be fully raised.

  2. Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.

  3. Place wheel blocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels.

  4. Install the steering frame lock. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Steering Frame Lock".

  5. Start the engine and warm up the hydraulic oil.

Note: The hydraulic oil must be at normal operating temperature to obtain an accurate reading.

  6. If the machine is equipped with the optional ride control system, move the ride control switch to the OFF position.

Check Procedure - Lift Cylinder

  1. Ensure that the manual lowering ball valve is in the closed position.

  2. Extend and retract the lift cylinders five or more times to ensure that warm oil fills the lift cylinders.

  3. Raise the lift arms to the full RAISED position, then move the joystick control lever to the HOLD position.

  4. Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position.

  5. Record the position of a lift cylinder rod.

  6. Measure and record the distance that the lift cylinder rod moves.

  7. Start the engine and lower the work tool to the ground.

  8. Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.

  9. Refer to Table 1 for the maximum drift that is allowed for the time and the temperature range for the hydraulic oil.

  10. Proceed to "Check Procedure - Tilt Cylinder" to test drift for the tilt cylinder.

Check Procedure - Tilt Cylinder

  1. Ensure that the manual lowering ball valve is in the closed position.

  2. Raise the lift arms so the bucket will clear the ground in the full DUMP position.

  3. Extend and retract the tilt cylinder five or more times to ensure that warm oil fills the tilt cylinder.

  4. Position the bucket so that the bottom of the bucket is parallel to the ground.

  5. Move the joystick control lever to the HOLD position.

  6. Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.

  7. Record the position of the tilt cylinder rod.

  8. Measure and record the distance that the tilt cylinder rod moves.

  9. Start the engine and lower the work tool to the ground.

  10. Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position.

  11. Refer to Table 1 for the maximum drift that is allowed for the time and the temperature range for the hydraulic oil.

  12. Remove the steering frame lock. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Steering Frame Lock".
