Introduction

This Special Instruction contains the procedure to bleed the conveyor charge pump on certain AP1000F, AP1055F, AP600F, and AP655F Asphalt Pavers.

After the hydraulic system has been drained and refilled, or the gear pump is serviced, the gear pump may be air locked upon first start-up. Upon first start-up after servicing, the augers and conveyors may not rotate in either manual or automatic operation. Perform the following procedure to bleed the air from the conveyor charge pump circuit.

Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.

Safety Section

------ WARNING! ------

Do not operate or work on this machine unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance Manuals. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact your Cat dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: Some models do not have a test port as described. Locate the vibratory supply fitting on the paver, as shown in illustration 3. Follow that hose to screed, and disconnect there.

  2. Place the disconnected hose in a suitable container (such as a large bucket).

  8. Observe disconnected hose for oil flow.

If steady oil flow is present:

    • turn off "Vibratory" function

    • shutdown machine

    • reconnect hose on screed

    • restart engine and check the conveyor/auger function by holding "Manual" buttons

    Augers and conveyors should rotate.

After 20 seconds, if steady oil flow is not present:

    • perform Step 9
