Problem:
There have been several reports of the Status Control Module (3E-9332 Electronic Control Group) engaging the starters and gas shutoff valve when the Mode Control Switch is rotated too quickly. It appears that the SCM has to be powered down for a period of time so the power to its internal circuits can drain down (capacitor discharge). Rotating the Mode Control Switch from Stop (or Auto), to Off/Reset, and then back to Stop (or Auto) faster than the internal circuit can drain down (capacitor discharge) will cause the SCM to energize the air start solenoid and gas shut off valve.
Solution:
The Mode Control Switch must be left in the Off/Reset position for 10 seconds to avoid the problem. The problem could occur if the time the Mode Control Switch is left in the Off/Reset position is shorter than 10 seconds. Lockout procedures should be implemented when servicing the engine. These procedures should include shutting off the air start line and gas supply line.
Engineering is working on a solution to this problem, and an Engine News Article will be released when a fix is available.
