Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
The power train system oil filter is located at the rear of the machine beneath the left-hand side of the fuel tank.
- Place a suitable container below oil filter housing (2).
- Remove drain plug (3) in the bottom of the oil filter housing and allow the oil to drain into the container below.
- Remove the oil filter housing by loosening the housing with a 1-1/2 inch socket or box end wrench at the bottom of the housing.
- Properly dispose of the used oil filter element contained in the oil filter housing. Also, properly dispose of the O-ring seal located in the groove at the top of the oil filter housing.
- Wash the oil filter housing in clean nonflammable solvent. Dry the housing thoroughly.
- Clean oil filter mounting base (1). Make sure that none of the material from the used O-ring seal remains with the filter mounting base.
- Inspect the O-ring seal on the drain plug that was removed from the bottom of the oil filter housing. Replace the O-ring seal with a new one if necessary.
- Apply transmission oil to the O-ring seal on the drain plug and install the drain plug in the bottom of the oil filter housing. Tighten the drain plug.
- A new O-ring seal for the oil filter housing is supplied with the new oil filter element. Install the new O-ring seal in the groove at the top of the oil filter housing.
- Apply a thin coat of transmission oil to the O-ring seals that are installed in each end of the new oil filter element.
- Install the new oil filter element in the oil filter housing by carefully sliding the filter element over the center tube in the housing.
- Apply a thin coat of transmission oil to the new O-ring seal that was installed in the groove at the top of the oil filter housing.
- Position the oil filter housing on the oil filter base and begin to tighten the oil filter housing by hand. Finish tightening the oil filter housing with a 1-1/2 inch socket to a torque of
50 ± 5 N·m (37 ± 4 lb ft) . - Open the access door that is forward of the left-hand ROPS post.

(5) Filler cap - Check the level of the power train system oil with oil level gauge (4).
Note: The oil level gauge has marks on one side for checking the oil level when the oil is cold and the engine is not running. Use this side of the oil level gauge for determining the initial oil level until the engine is started and the oil is warm.

- If necessary, remove oil filler cap (5) and add oil.
- Start the engine and operate the machine for a short time.
- Park the machine, stop the engine, and recheck the power train system oil level.
- Close the access door.
