Piston skirts with U182 and U183 dates codes can lead to piston seizure on certain 3456 or C-16 Engines. If the existing piston skirts with these dates codes are installed it can/will lead to a piston skirt seizure. |
Remove all 284-6039 Piston Skirts with a U182 or U183 date code on the bottom of the piston skirt from dealer stock. Refer to Image 1.
For 0R9393 and 0R8918 Cylinder Packs with packaging date codes between D22M07Y13P68HL and D22M07Y14P68HL (example Image2), remove from the packaging and inspect for U182 and U183 date codes on the piston skirt. Replace the piston skirt if found with these date codes with a new 284-6039 Piston Skirt of another date code.
For short blocks with part numbers 0R4767, 10R1506, and 10R8606 with packaging date codes between D22M07Y13P68HL and D22M07Y14P68HL, inspect the short block to determine if they contain piston skirts with the affected U182 and U183 dates codes. If any are found, replace each piston skirt with an affected date code with new 284-6039 Piston Skirt of another date code. Document the serial number of each short block reworked.
For long blocks part numbers 10R7271 and 10R7272 with packaging date codes between D22M07Y13P68HL and D22M07Y14P68HL, inspect the long block to determine if they contain piston skirts with the affected U182 and U183 dates codes. If any are found, replace each piston skirt with an affected date code with new 284-6039 Piston Skirt of another date code. Document the serial number of each long block reworked. |
Submit one claim for all parts removed or reworked in dealer parts stock.
For 0R9393, and 0R8918 Cylinder Packs, 0.25 hour is allowed each cylinder pack inspected. An additional 0.25 hour is allowed for each cylinder pack where the piston skirt is replaced. One 284-6039 Piston Skirt is allowed for each cylinder pack where the piston skirt is replaced.
For 0R4767, 10R1506, and 10R8606 Short Blocks, 1 hour is allowed for each short block inspected. An additional 2 hours is allowed for each short block where the piston skirt(s) is/are replaced. One 284-6039 Piston Skirt is allowed for each the piston skirt that is replaced. Report the serial number of each short block reworked in the claim story.
For 10R7271, and 10R7272 Long Blocks, 2 hours is allowed of labor for each long block inspected. An additional 4 hours is allowed for each long block where the piston skirt(s) is/are replaced. One 284-6039 Piston Skirt is allowed for each the piston skirt that is replaced and one 359-0908 Head Gasket. Report the serial number of each long block reworked in the claim story. |
