Improved Alpha-Numeric SMCS (Service Management Control System) Component Codes Allow For Future Expansion Of System Categories{0374}
Usage:
Incorporating alpha characters in one or more of the four SMCS component code positions enables more codes within the traditional system categories. Existing codes will continue to be used. When expansion within a system category is required, an alpha character will initially appear in the fourth position of the component code. For example, 429F is the SMCS code for brake oil in the 1998 code booklet. In this case, the use of an alpha character in the fourth position allows for 26 additional codes beginning with 429.
