--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Reference: Service Magazine; December 26, 1994; Page 3; "Use The Technical Information Feedback Systems".

There may be instances when the user of service literature discovers discrepancies, omissions, etc. in publications. The Technical Information Department provides a method that enables you to report these discoveries. One method is the Technical Information Feedback System.

This system consists of a pre-addressed post card that is simple and easy to use. The reverse side of this card lists the literature that is the responsibility of the Technical Information Department. Space is provided for you to enter specific information and a brief explanation of the discrepancy or omission.

A second option is found in the Service Information Retrieval System. Your feedback can be communicated online through the "For Information, News, Documents". (FIND-TEXT) or "SIRS-Title Index" (FIND-SIRS). This method is very similar to the discrepancy card described above. The Reference Article describes the procedure to access the feedback screen in the FIND-SIRS system.

A third option is found in the E-Mail System in 3270 Emulation system. The electronic document is accessed in the "Shared Documents" menu of the E-Mail System.

At the "Caterpillar Electronic Mail Menu" screen, choose the "Documents" option by typing the number (4) or a fast-path command (WD); then press ENTER. On the "Create Document Selection Menu", choose the (4) "Work with Shared Base Documents" menu item in the list that appears for that screen, then press ENTER.

The Shared Base Document Selection instructs you to enter the name of the document. If you do not recall the exact title, press ENTER and a list of the shared documents will be displayed. The title that is used is, "PUBS FEEDBACK". Select the document and press ENTER. The next screen allows you to choose to VIEW or SELECT FOR EDITING. In the next screen, type in the document name that you choose to title your request, then type in ENTER.

The information displayed on the next screen is very similar to the Feedback Card or the FIND-SIRS Feedback screen. Identify the publication where you have found the discrepancy and complete the following information:

* Machine or engine model number,
* Product Identification Number (PIN) or Serial Number (S/N),
* Engine arrangement number (if applicable),
* Media or form number and page numbers,
* Title and issue date.

There is space for a brief description of the discrepancy. The most important information to provide is the media number and the page number.

After the form is completed, choose the FILE (PF3) command. On the next screen, choose the (3) SEND option and press ENTER. When the screen appears that asks for recipients, you will see "/NAMES" in the first recipient line. That "List Name" will automatically send the document to N1PUBS, ADCCHOST.

To send your request directly to the FIND-SIRS coordinator, type in the recipient "JOHNSJW, ADCCHOST". This process will send the document directly to the person responsible for distributing the Feedback Information. You also have identified clearly your address and will be assured of a more prompt reply.

Caterpillar encourages all product support personnel to make use of these feedback systems. Your input is important.

The illustration displays the form as it appears in the Electronic Mail.
